This Adbo guard from Grays offers plenty of protection to players at lower levels and is simple to put on with an elasticated waistband and leg straps. Its relatively light, so stays in place, and seems compatible with a wide range of protective shorts. It is a single rather than double cup design, so does not offer the highest level of protection, but given the price it represents excellent value for money.
